Academic Council

The Academic Council was established by the Statutory Faculty Assembly at its 19 May 2010 meeting as part of the New Governance Constitution that was approved and adopted at that meeting. The role of the Academic Council is to discuss and review academic issues and present recommendations for action to the University Senate.

Reviews nominations, recommends recipients of honorary degrees and annual UO awards for distinguished service to the state and region.

Solicits nominations and selects recipients of Ersted Award, Faculty Achievement Award, and other university-wide awards for distinguished teaching.

Environmental Issues

Recommends policy/programs on environmental issues that affect the quality of life, safety, and health of faculty, staff and students, and the general public.

Faculty Advisory Council

The Faculty Advisory Council shall be responsible for providing the President and other Administration officials with faculty opinion and counsel on the wide range of university affairs. In its relations with the President, the Administration, and with the faculty, the Faculty Advisory Council shall act either on request or on its own initiative.

The Faculty Personnel Committee shall be responsible for advising the Provost on all tenure and promotion cases.

Foreign Study Programs

Reviews and approves academic standards in foreign study programs of the University granting academic credit; reviews new program proposals.

Graduate Council

The Graduate Council shall advise the Dean of the Graduate School on matters pertaining to graduate study at the University of Oregon. The Council shall establish general policies and regulations governing graduate study at the University of Oregon, excluding those matters requiring approval by the Chancellor or the Oregon University System (OUS).

Intercollegiate Athletics

The Intercollegiate Athletics Committee shall:  represent the academic standards of the university as embodied in the University of Oregon Mission Statement in all decisions;  advise the administration, the senate, and the athletics director on any athletics department policy or program, including the athletics department budget; promote and safeguard opportunities for student athletes to excel in academics and protect and ensure the academic integrity of student athletes; and, promote greater understanding, for the university community, of intercollegiate athletics and the relationship between academics and athletics.

Advises faculty and administration on policy and practice concerning tenure reduction, retirement, rights of emeriti.

Transparency Committee

Review UO's procedures regarding access to public records and financial information, and evaluate the effectiveness of those procedures. Accept and review complaints from faculty, staff, or students regarding access to public records and financial information, and make suggestions to the UO public records officer and President's office on resolving such complaints.

For conduct cases to be handled by formal hearing, this Board hears the case, listens to evidence, decides if Student Conduct Code has been violated, and determines which, if any, sanctions to impose.
